April 11 Transition Update

On Wednesday, April 3, the Search Committee met to discuss the next steps in the search process with Canon Catherine Massey. Through the end of this month, the committee will meet to prepare interview questions for Zoom and in-person interviews of interested candidates. We will receive the names and files of interested priests on April 29, and the discernment phase of the search process will begin. Zoom interviews will be scheduled and conducted with potential candidates and the committee will discern two to three candidates to invite to Raleigh for in-person interviews. The names of the semi-finalists will be shared with Canon Massey who will conduct “pre-flight” checks with the dioceses in which the semi-finalists have served. In addition, each semi-finalist will meet with the Bishop during their Raleigh visit.

After the in-person interviews, the committee members will prayerfully discern who they believe should be called to serve as Nativity’s new Rector. The entire committee will present its recommendation to the Vestry and the Bishop, at which time the Vestry will extend an invitation to the finalist to return to Raleigh for an in-person interview with the full Vestry. Both the Vestry and the finalist will mutually discern if the priest is called to serve as Nativity’s next Rector.

Please continue to inform interested candidates that our Parish Portfolio is available, and we are receiving names until April 28, 2024.

Next Steps:

  • April 28, 2024: Last day to receive names of interested priests.
  • Spring/Early Summer: Search Committee conducts discernment conversations with priests.

Easter Thank You from the Vestry

What a busy and glorious Holy Week at Nativity! The Vestry would like to thank everyone who gave their time, talent, and heartfelt touches to each and every service.

Stephanie, Cathy, Phillip, and Jeremy delivered some amazing sermons, shared some great children’s homilies (and crafts), and presided over some beautiful baptisms!

Bradley provided some poignant music and inspired the choir to work their vocal cords overtime, resulting in lovely psalms, hymns, and especially Ye Choirs of New Jerusalem. Well done!

Throughout the week, various Nativity committees offered their services — the altar guild aided in the Maundy Thursday evening activity of foot washing, parishioners volunteered to read at the Stations of the Cross on Good Friday, many green thumbs and strong arms showed up to tidy up during the Buildings and Grounds workday on Saturday, and the Flower Guild outdid themselves with their creative arrangements for all to enjoy on Easter Sunday. And let’s not forget Viola and her youth helpers who spent time stuffing, hiding, and helping the younger kids find LOTS of Easter eggs!

We would love to name each and every one of you who helped with and/or participated in this past week’s activities, but you know who you are… You Are Nativity! And we thank you all.

Caring for Creation Social Justice

Spring 2024 CSA

by Carl Sigel

Since Nativity’s earliest days, one of the cornerstones of our mission has been to explore how we grow, eat, and share food.

In 2021, Nativity partnered with nine other Raleigh congregations in a program to support our local Black farmers. The program, called Farm to Church Community Supported Agriculture or CSA, was launched by the Rural Advancement Foundation International-USA (RAFI-USA).  CSAs have become a popular way for consumers (CSA members) to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer and to build a caring relationship with that farmer.  The members buy a share of a farmer’s production up-front that helps the farm’s cash flow and allows the farmer to plan their crop production in a way that limits food waste and farm expenses. The members benefit by receiving weekly fresh and nutritious farm products.

The Spring signup period for the churches that are served by Singing Stream Farm is now open and runs through April 12. The Spring deliveries to Nativity will begin Saturday, April 20 and run through June 8. Members must pick up their produce on Saturday mornings during the delivery period. One does not need to be a member of Nativity to participate. As in the past, the online ordering system is there for your convenience. All orders can be placed through the online store by accessing the following link  https://app.barn2door.com/51vo9. Payments can also be made via check, credit or debit card. Share costs remain at $125 for a half share and $250 for a full share. If paying by check, at the payment type click on the drop-down arrow and select check as the payment type. If paying by check, please make them payable to Singing Stream Farm, and mail to the following address:
